The future of food production hinges on an important question: How do we feed the worldโs growing population without compromising our natural resources? Farmers feed our population and hold the keys to vital climate solutions. At Halter, weโre on a mission to enable farmers to run the most productive and sustainable farms. Farmers are using Halter to break free from the time-intensive constraints of conventional farming. Theyโre growing more grass, increasing milk production and improving the health and wellbeing of their cows.
We bridge deep tech into farming. Halter enables farmers to remotely shift, virtually fence and proactively monitor their cowsโ health and behaviour. Can you imagine watching 500 dairy cows turn in unison and walk calmly towards the milking shed? No quad bikes, no dogs, no fences. Just a mob of cows walking at their own pace. People say it looks like magic. Our customers are revolutionizing farming with Halter. It's changing lives and transforming an industry.
People join Halter because they want to do meaningful work. By joining us youโll be solving challenging problems within a talented team and a culture built for high performance. Our team out-think, out-work and out-care. Weโre committed to delivering real change in the world - this isnโt easy, and in truth, we love that itโs hard. Weโre backed to deliver on a mission that matters by Tier 1 investors including Bessemer Venture Partners, DCVC, Blackbird, Promus Ventures, Rocket Labโs Peter Beck and Icehouse ventures.

About the role
This role is not at all like other sales roles in Agri and this product is not comparable to other products or services. You will pioneer the most groundbreaking innovation in dairy farming in decades.
Farmers with Halter are pioneering a new way of dairy farming. We have unlocked the connection between farmers and their cows, and in doing so, transformed the way farmers operate. By automating cow movements and providing 24/7 cow monitoring, Halter has removed many of the barriers farmers face on a day-to-day basis. Halter farmers donโt need to get up at 4 am to get the cows in, put up a fence, find sick cows, or detect heatsโฆ with Halter, they can do all of this automatically and more proactively through the Halter App. They can schedule their mobs to meet them at the dairy for milking, run as many mobs as they want, and be alerted to cows with early signs of illness. Break fencing and allocating feed used to take 20 minutes, now it takes 10 seconds and is extremely precise. Welcome to farming with Halter!
We are searching for a driven and high-performing Business Development Executive to grow Halter in the Taranaki market. This is an opportunity to positively disrupt an industry and pioneer groundbreaking change on some of the worldโs highest-performing dairy farms. You will be leading the Taranaki expansion for one of the worldโs fastest-growing companies by helping equip farms with world-first Halter technology that will transform the way they farm to become leaders in productivity and sustainability. You will be backed by a team of exceptional people on the ground and at Halterโs Auckland HQ, to ensure this is the best job youโll ever have.

No two days are the same! Being on-farm, there is a practical as well as a theory aspect which I loved. Jobs would range from carrying out practical tests on-farm or on customer farms for both your and other team members' projects. Meetings would be conducted on a daily basis between software/firmware engineers in order to develop an addition to the collar. Trips to Auckland would be taken which allows face to face meetings, relationship building and a good team environment. Responsibilities outside of our designated projects ranged from practical tractor work cleaning up around the offices, to conducting and running farm team days to bridge the gap between Auckland staff and the farm.
As I am an intern in the production team, my work involves managing inventory, sourcing components for the collars, solving production issues, and communicating with the factory. I also work on writing assembly and testing documentation for the factory to follow. A big project I worked on during my summer internship in 2021/22 was writing software to forecast the average cost of the collar over the coming year. The work is quite varied from day to day, and there's something new to work on nearly everyday.

Technology
Halter leverages artificial intelligence to create a future of farming that is more simple, ethical and sustainable.
You get to work with a bunch of extremely talented individuals who get things done and support you along the way. Honesty and feedback are some of the things I love the most - you work in a culture that fosters a self-improvement attitude. The office is nice and you get free snacks and drinks, there are plenty of company events which means you it's not all work and no play! And finally, obviously the game-changing technology you'll be working on. Modern software stack and relatively low-tech debt mean you won't find yourself doing a boring job of maintaining legacy code.
The people! The people and culture at Halter are unlike any company I've worked at or heard about. The work is so dynamic and that's owing to the very inclusive, talented, and committed people that make the teams. Their energy is infectious and makes you want to continually better yourself and ask questions and know more about your work and the field.
Great team environment with very skilled people who all work together to achieve a company-wide goal. Halter is a very fast-moving company that uses all resources available to move fast-paced into a challenge. Within the farm guidance team, everyone was very accommodating and open to the fact that someone starting needs assistance understanding the product and his role within the company, with this they were super helpful and forthcoming!
Being a startup, I believe the processes/documentation around some things are quite undeveloped, you find yourself needing to ask around for a few things (some of which you may never find the answer to, because a said person may no longer be working here anymore). People are busy and tend to have quite a lot on their plate.
There are always so many interesting events going on to distract you. This is also a huge positive, as no two days look the same!
Because the work you do is so exciting and rewarding, it can sometimes be hard to switch off and strike a good balance between working and destressing. Being mindful of that and taking regular breaks, and making time for hobbies helps me maintain that balance.
