Application Process & Interviews at BDO New Zealand

Pretty straight forward and friendly. Prepared car park for interviewee, also got an office tour after the interview.

Great interview and process wasn't too long also didn't make me wait too long

No assessments - I had 2 interviews both with great people to talk to and learn from.

An interview with an HR person in recruitment and then an interview with a partner

Very casual interview. More like a chat, but with a professional and positive vibe No assessment included.

Did an internship which I was interviewed for in person. After completing the internship I was then offered a grad role after my final year of study. All I had to do was a basic interview and then assessed through out my internship

The process was thorough but also quick. Did not have to spend days waiting for a response regarding the continuation or stoppage of my application

1. Started with an online application 2. Online Test - just regarding general accounting knowledge 3. Meet in person - having an in person interview with the manager.

Super quick at replying. I had already received an offer from employer before other companies had responded for interview opportunities.

The hiring process was enjoyable it felt more like a conversation than an interview and it was also a quick process, by the time I had driven home from the interview I was told I had the job

Honestly its been so long now since interviewing (because my only interview was before my internship in April 2022) so I am sure a lot has changed, but from what I remember the process was quite tedious (lots of pre quizzes and then an interview over zoom, and in person and then maybe even a case study)

The application process was way more efficient and way more enjoyable compare to other companies I interviewed for. Responded a lot faster and it was a less stressful interview which made me more inclined to accept. Assessment was all good as well. Offer after working as an intern was good as well

Very easy. Good instructions given for each task

Hiring process was good, however, did find there were lots of assessments that were demanding/time consuming. Interview and communication after was really good. It didn't feel like an interview felt more like a catch up which was a really good experience.

The interview process was very easy as they always kept you in the loop with what was happening and what you needed to complete next. The assessment that you complete before any interviews take place was easy to get in to and pretty straight forward in terms of making sure that you knew basic accounting knowledge.

The interview process was great, I felt really comfortable talking with Dylan from HR, and was given options on what office I would want to work at based on where I live. The interview with my team partner and director was also relaxed and they made it an enjoyable experience. Also, I didn't feel like the pre interview testing and video questions were too complicated or tedious.

Do not remember. I got offered the job after being an intern.

Information around previous roles, what skills/knowledge I obtained in them that I could bring to the firm. Personal interest/ what I get up to outside of work. General flow of conversation.

Previous work experience, how you handled different situations.

Do you know much about the firm and the different service lines - what they do? Explain a bit more about your previous experience. A little bit on what my future plans/goals are. Can you describe a situation where you faced conflict and how you overcame it?

Where would you like to see yourself going in the next few years? How did you find out about BDO, why did you apply to BDO?

For myself, I was asked why I was moving to Auckland since I was living in Tauranga. Mostly, my interview was a conversation about my work expectations and how I can help the team I was being put into.

Questions related to previous experience, previous issues I have encountered in the work force, and ways that I have overcome previous challenges in the work force.

Describe the accruals process in accounting was probably the toughest one, caught me a bit off guard. The rest of them pretty standard, strengths, weaknesses, team collaboration and what not.

What is my vision for my career, why did I want to apply for this role. any special experience I have had while I was in University.

Be yourself, people hire based on whether they would want to work 40 hours a week with you. Although grades will get you an interview, your personality will get you the job

Research the company well - make sure you understand the company's values

I think just being prepared to talk about yourself and your best qualities and to try and come in with confidence even if it is fake confidence.

Not sure specifically for BDO but for interviews in general prepare basic behavioural question answers with multiple scenarios in mind already that you can draw from. Relax and take your time with your answers and don't be afraid to ask for some time to think about/process the question as it is better to answer it as best you can rather than rush an answer you could have answered better just taking a few seconds to think. Do some research on the company and reasons why you chose BDO. Take some time to see BDO's values. Apply early

Know yourself and what you want. By being self-secure and able to present yourself as is rather than what they want to see/ generic approach. This allows the interviewer to gage your personality as well as how to approach situations. It also allows you and the interviewer to get a better understanding if the role actually fits.

The interview process was one of the more relaxed and friendlier experiences than others that I had around the same time. Be yourself and don't worry too much about trying to memorise facts about the company.

Always good to refresh over your own CV to rejog your memory and think of some study or workplace examples that you could use in your answers. Also, if you don't already know - sit down and think of your future plans (5-year) so that you know what you want to be getting in your next position, rather than thinking the interview is one sided. It's also an opportunity for you to see if this company and team would be a good fit for you and your career.

Be as calm as possible, treat it as a normal everyday situation.

I would say do your due diligence on the position you're applying for so you can show that you have good knowledge about the department you will be working in.

Just look back over your previous work experience and collate a few stories of when you have overcome a challenge, when you have dealt with a difficult co-worker, when you have been successful with a task etc.

Know how the accrual process works lol. Act committed to the company and don't sound unsure about if you want to work there.
